After a storm

Do this first, in this order

You decide whether to file. Here is what we tell every homeowner.

  1. Stay safe and off the roof

Look from the ground. Keep clear of downed lines and wet wiring.

  2. Photograph the damage

From the ground and from inside. Date the photos if your phone doesn't.

  3. Call your insurer yourself

You decide whether to file, and you deal with your insurer. We don't do that for you.

  4. Keep more water out

Make temporary repairs only. A tarp is the usual one, and we can put it on.

  5. Ask for an inspection if you want one

We inspect, photograph and write an itemized estimate you can share with your insurer. If you ask, we can meet your adjuster.

Our part

What we do, and what stays with you

The decision to file, the conversation with your insurer and the deductible are yours. Our part is the roof: an inspection, photographs and a written estimate with every line itemized.

  • You decide whether to file a claim

  • You deal with your insurer

  • The deductible is yours to pay

  • We inspect, photograph and write an itemized estimate

  • If you ask, we can meet your adjuster

Hurricane season

The season, month by month

The Atlantic season runs June 1 to November 30 and peaks around the second week of September. Dates are the owner's to edit.

  • May

    Before June 1

Get the roof looked at. Trim limbs that overhang. Check flashing, boots and the edges.

  • Early season

    June to August

A leak after a squall is a tarp call. We keep crews and tarps on hand.

  • Peak

    Mid-August to October

The busiest weeks. Calls are returned in the order they come in.

  • Close

    November 30

The season ends. Re-roofs we scheduled through it start moving again.

Questions

Storm questions

What should I do right after storm damage?

Stay off the roof, photograph the damage from the ground, tell your insurer yourself, and keep further water out with a tarp. If you want us there when the adjuster comes, ask.

Can you cover my deductible?

No. We don't advertise or promise to pay, waive or absorb a deductible, and Louisiana law doesn't allow it. The deductible is yours to pay.

What about people knocking on doors after a storm?

Insurance pays only for covered damage, and you still owe the deductible. Ask for a license number and a local address, and don't sign over your rights to anyone. We don't go door to door after storms.

How do I know if it's wind damage or just wear?

Creased, lifted or missing shingles, exposed nail heads and torn flashing point to wind. Even granule loss across a slope points to age. A photo report from the roof shows which.

Will a FORTIFIED roof lower my insurance bill?

Some insurers discount a FORTIFIED roof. Each company decides, so ask yours before you decide. We can't promise a discount.

Want a second set of eyes on the roof?

Request a roof inspection. We photograph the roof and write down what we find.
