Re-roofing

Asphalt shingle roofs for Gulf coast houses

Tear-off down to the deck, a deck check, new underlayment and drip edge, then architectural shingles rated for the wind we get here.

Heat, humidity and storm seasons wear a roof faster here than a shingle's label suggests. We tell you what your roof has left before we talk about replacing it.

What a standard re-roof includes

  • One layer torn off, not two roofs stacked

  • Deck checked, and bad sheets priced per sheet in writing

  • Synthetic underlayment, drip edge, starter and ridge caps

  • Permit pulled, cleanup with a magnet sweep

Signs it's time

When a repair stops making sense

  • Age

A roof near the end of its life keeps failing in new places.

  • Shingles

Curling, cracked or missing shingles across more than one slope.

  • Granules

    Gutters full of shingle grit.

  • Stains

Marks on ceilings or in the attic after rain.

  • Sagging

    A dip in the roofline.

  • Flashing

Chimney or wall flashing that has pulled away.

How the job runs

Day by day

  1. 01
    Day 0

Step 1: Before the crew comes

We confirm the permit, the shingle and the date. You move cars, take fragile things off walls and cover attic items.

  2. 02
    Day 1

Step 2: Tear-off and deck check

Old shingles come off and go in the trailer. We check the deck and show you any bad sheets before replacing them.

  3. 03
    Day 1 to 2

    Step 3: Dry-in and shingles

Underlayment, drip edge and flashing go on, then shingles. We tear off only what we can cover that day.

  4. 04
    Last day

Step 4: Ridge, cleanup and walk-through

Ridge caps, vents, a magnet sweep of the yard, and a walk around with photos.

Questions

Re-roofing questions

How long does an asphalt shingle roof last?

Architectural shingles run about 25 to 30 years in many places. On the Gulf coast, heat, humidity and storms can shorten that, so a roof's age is a starting point, not a verdict. We look before we recommend anything.

How long does a replacement take?

Most houses take one to three days of work. Weather can move the dates, and we only tear off what we can dry in the same day.

Do I need a permit?

For a full replacement, almost always. We pull it and list the fee on your estimate. Ask us which office issues it for your address.

What warranty comes with a new roof?

Two parts: the shingle maker's material warranty, and our own workmanship warranty. Their lengths and exclusions are written in your estimate and the warranty papers.

Ready for a number?

Rufus comes out, measures the roof and writes the estimate. You see the price before anything starts.
